That was the story in New York City Thursday morning after the New York Yankees won there 27th World Series title. It is the Yankees first World Series victory in 9 years after winning in 2000 against the New York Mets. The Yankees last appeared in the World Series in 2003 when they lost to the Florida Marlins.

After opening a new stadium worth more then anything you can think of and after spending over $400,000 on just three players (C.C. Sabathia, AJ Burnett, Mark Teixiera) a lot was expected from this team. They did what they had to do and won it for the “Boss” also known as George Steinbrenner.

The Yankees took on the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Phillies are defending champs that return to the World Series for a 2nd year in a row and showing a lot of confidence and fight in there team. The Philliesmade great moves with adding Rual Ibanez and Cliff Lee and a Yankee favorite Pedro Martinez.

Game 1 of the World Series was played in the Bronx with former teammates and Cy Young Winners (Best Pitcher in that season) Cliff Lee of the Phillies and C.C. Sabathia of the Yankees.

Lee had the better game pitching all 9 innings and CC only pitching 7innings. Lee was on command with his “Spike Curveball” and CC was on target but in the end Lee just dominated the Yankees lineup.

Chase Utley had two home runs vs CC and powered the Phillie soffense with the home runs.

Phillies won 6-1 and lead the series 1-0

Game 2 was AJ Burnett vs Pedro Martinez. Pedro knows how it feels to be pitching in New York after many years vs the hateful Boston Red Sox’s.

Burnett out pitched Pedro this game. Both game 1 and 2 were all about pitching as both teams struggled to hit and score runs. Both teams offense is 1 and 2 in the MLB.

Yankees won 3-1 tying the series at 1-1.

Game 3 was a game were the offense came to life. Andy Pettitte was on the mound  for the Yankees and Cole Hamels was for the Phillies.

In the second innings Phillies Right Fielder Jason Werth hit a 3 run home run that was a bomb!  Werth later hit a solo home run for his 2nd in the game.

The Yankee offense score a total of 8 runs in 5 innings to give them a lead of 8-4 going into the 9th until Phillies Catcher Ruiz hit a solo home run. The Yankees won anyway 8-5

Yankees won 8-5 leading the series 2-1.

Game 4 was a very even match up with CC going for the Yankees and Joe Blaton going for the Phillies.

Advantage Yankees? Not really the Phillies Chase Utley found a way to hit Sabathia again hit long home runs in this game to keep the Phillies in it and Blaton did the best he could do.

Going into the 9th inning the game was tied at 4′s.

Yankees came up and scored 3 runs against last year’s best closer Brad Lidge who saved 48/48 saves for the Phillies.

Then it was time for “Sandman” Mariano Rivera to shut the lights off for the Phillies that night.

Yankees won 7-4 and now lead the series 3-1. Only one win away from being champs.

Game 5 was the last chance for the Phillies to send the series back to New York. Thats exactly was the Phillies did.

Phillies had there ace Lee against the good game 2 starter Burnett for the Yankees.

Once again Lee came out on top and got the “W” for the Phillies. Lee pitched 7 1/3 of the game and left the rest to his bullpen, that gave up 4 runs when he left.

The Yankees did try to make a come back but it did not happen there way tonight after losing 8-6 in a game were AJ Burnett did not have his stuff.

Game 6 was another great match up with a pitcher who has the most wins in playoff history and his name is Andy Pettitte and Yankee favorite Pedro Martinez.

Both pitchers did not have there best stuff but Pettitte had the edge with Pedro only lasting 2 innings of work.

Hideki “GODZILLA” Matsui provieded the spark that the Yankees needed. He hit a two run home run and then a single that scored two runs and a double that scored another 2 runs and endedthe game with 6 RBI’s.(Runs Batted In)

Yankees brought in “Sandman” Rivera to secure there 27th ring  in franchise history.

Yankees won this game 7-3 and won the World Series over the Phillies 4 games to 2 on a best of 7 series.

Matsuiwas the WS MVP. He had a .615 batting avg. and provide 7 RBI’s and 3 home runs.

Give both team credit for great effort and making it as far as they did.

“This one is for you, boss.”
