A Blue Christmas

Have you ever seen that animated movie, The Year without a Santa Claus? The one where they go on and on with goofy songs about the Snow Miser and Heat Miser and you just want to get up and leave the room because they are so annoying? Well, this year I just had to remember that it still existed. About two days after December started, “Boom”-“Boom” Christmas lights are up, up and down the street. What I didn’t know is that my neighbors across the street were planning.

Later that evening, December 2nd, if you remember still, I was walking toward the front door when I saw a tint of Blue coming through the window. I ignored it thinking it was just a car with blue lights or something. How silly I was! A car with blue lights, c’mon man, get your head in the game! The next time around, being the next night, the third if you are really following me, I just couldn’t ignore it. I opened the front door and low and behold, I saw blue Christmas lights on my neighbor’s house across the street!
At this point I was like, “Hello, did you know its Christmas or are you still celebrating the Fourth of July?” Seriously, think about this. When was the last time, besides Lights on The Lake down in Liverpool, have you seen light blue Christmas lights? For me, never! I hope I shall never see them again. Not that I don’t like blue or that I think it doesn’t look nice it does, but is it really signify Christmas?
That’s when the Year without a Santa Claus idea came into my head. I don’t know if you remember these oldie films that come on around Christmas, but in this movie there is a song called, “I’ll have a Blue Christmas”. Now the song had nothing to do with Christmas Lights. It dealt with a children all over the world crying because Santa was planning on taking the year off. It showed a sad girl writing a letter to Santa saying she will miss seeing/believing in him this year. (rather than missing him for not giving her presents). It gets so touching at one point that the tears fall onto the page! But when I saw this house with Blue lights my mind immediately zoomed back to my youth and that song with the teardrops, “I’ll Have a Blue Christmas”
As I stared at the lights mocking Christmas at me from across the street, I began thinking about a white Christmas this year. When was the last time we had significant snow on Christmas Day that would make the season feel like it should be? Three to four years maybe? If conditions don’t improve for the worst, meaning snow, then those lights across the street could make this year a Blue Christmas.

I certainly won’t cry like a baby because Santa’s not coming, but I will cry if there is no snow on Christmas like it should be this year. I just hope that I won’t have to sing the blues and watch the annoying movie one more time instead of looking out the window and seeing green on my lawn and blue lights on my neighbor’s house.
Santa, all I want for Christmas this year is some snow and more red and green Christmas lights on my street. If you can manage all that, besides all the other gifts you give to kids all over the world, that would be great! Thank You! P.S.-By the way asking the Snow Miser might help! Just so you know. He’s great at stirring up a storm. Uh,… I mean blizzard. Your faithful and loyal follower, Josh Peelman of The Lifeguard.
