Sherlock Holmes

Since I’ve never been a big fan of the Sherlock Holmes series, I was skeptical at first about attending the new Sherlock Holmes movie. After being thrown into the eventful opening scene, where Holmes and Watson take down an ominous villain, I knew I was going to like this film.

Director Guy Ritchie did a magnificent job constructing a vivid model of 1800′s England. Leading actor Robert Downing Jr. possesses a rich array of skills that assist him in playing the very intelligent but somewhat unorthodox protagonist. Supporting actor Jude Law, who plays the part of Dr. Watson helps by adding a professional touch to the duo. The movie contains an array of exhilarating fight scenes, ranging from hand-to-hand combat to invigorating gunfights.

This dynamic duo also provides some comic relief. Since Watson and Holmes are so close, they give off a brotherly vibe. Due to this Holmes continuously sabotages Watson’s relationship with Marry Morstan, whom he intends to court.

Rachel McAdams plays the part of Irene Adler, the cunning temptress who seeks to glean information from Holmes. At first I found her to have a somewhat cold personality, but through her chronicles in the movie I concluded that she was not only providing information to save her life, but to save Holmes’ life as well.

Because of his strong feelings for Miss Adler, this is the one clue Sherlock overlooked. It’s truly intriguing how Holmes comes to accurate conclusion through analyzing rather minute and simplistic objects or signs that one would normally overlook.

To put it simply, I find this movie to be a must-see. Grab a bucket of popcorn, sit back and get ready to be blown away.
