The Liverpool Warriors, in front of a passionate home crowd, showed great poise and control in their nine-point win over the Bees.

The first half of the game was even, very back and forth between the two squads. The lead was tossed between the two teams like the proverbial “hot potato.”

The Warriors had a half time advantage of 25-19. Liverpool’s Nina Tassone had eleven points in the first half and Nicole Ciricillo scored five in the same amount of time.

A big part of the Warriors game plan is spacing, efficient passing, and smooth strokes from the outside.  Liverpool shot tremendously from the field, stretching out a Baldwinsville defense that appeared to never truly be comfortable all night.

A huge factor in the Bees discomfort on the court may have come from the abundance of noise coming from the Liverpool crowd.  A crowd of several dozen family and friends were in attendance, rooting their girls on.

However, it was the presence of a few dozen junior and senior varsity stars that made the biggest impact. Many of the players on the varsity football and boys basketball teams were yelling their lungs out.

It was an incredible sight, the passion these studs had for their woman counterparts. The girls games statistically don’t draw the same crowds as the boys’, yet it doesn’t seem to stop the boys from rooting the girls on as hard as they can.

“I can barely talk today,” said senior varsity football and basketball player Mike Dontizen the morning after. “I screamed so loud last night.”

In fact, the only missing component from last nights game seemed to be star Ally Zywicki. That is, until the second half started.

Zywicki appeared to dance around defenders in the second half, dribbling strongly and powerfully. She played a flawless floor general over the course of the second half, garnishing steals, making crisp passes, and putting the ball in the hoop.

With the game on the line at the three minute mark and while hanging on to a five point lead, Zywicki began to dominate. Over a three possession stretch, she scored two buckets, forced an aggressive steal, and made a “sick” pass on a two on one break that sliced the through the defender.

Zywicki finished with twelve points and Liverpool closed out the victory. Ciricillo and Tassone both finished with fourteen points in the game.

The Warriors are now 6-5 on the season, and an even 3-3 in conference play. The next big game is Friday against a one win Auburn team on the road at 7 p.m.
