Freshman/Sophomore Semi-Formal
The majority of the freshmen seemed ecstatic about Saturday’s simple Valentine’s Day semi-formal. At least 5 freshmen stormed out of vans to walk into the Holiday Inn on Electronics Parkway.
My guess is that they all met up at a house and took millions of pictures to remember the night…even though they will probably go to the dance next year as well. But I guess it’ll be different when they’re sophomores.
As a sophomore, it felt different to me. On one side of the ballroom, groups of rowdy freshmen hugged and yelled to old friends that they haven’t seen since Friday. It’s been a long time for them. On the other side, sophomores were hanging out in groups with their friends – like normal people, more or less.
This year the sophomores met up at a house, took a couple of pictures, and left for the dance. No big hooray! They were excited, but relaxed – a huge change from the previous year.
I do not mean to trash on how the freshmen acted at a school dance, but one year made a huge difference in the way sophomores acted, compared to the freshmen. Freshmen act excited 24/7 (except symposium students).
This dance was like the cherry topping to their sundaes of high school life. Sophomores, though they’re jeered by almost all upperclassmen, seemed more relaxed about this school function. Now this could be because we have experienced the dance last year, or it could be because being in the “Big House”, semi-formal is practically nothing.
When you’re talking about senior ball, it seems like a pretty big deal; with those ticket prices, it should be.
There isn’t much more to say about the dance itself. We’ve all been there before; we know what it’s like. If you haven’t, you really didn’t miss a whole lot.
The food was pretty good, with more of a variety than last year. I remember there were chicken tenders and soda last year. This year there were little ham sandwhiches, crackers, even cheese platters. Now we’re talking fancy!
For the dinner part of the night, you could have chosen chicken tenders or pizza. Yes, very generic, but tasty as well. To top it off, dessert consisted of cupcakes, cookies, fruit, and……CHOCOLATE!. I don’t anybody was as excited as I was for strawberries and melted chocolate. It was the highlight of the night.
Overall, the night was good. No physical fights erupted over any girl or any other useless high school drama. Everybody left smiling, laughing, and tired from all the dancing. I’m glad it was a success.
