SADD raises awareness with ribbon campaign
Student members of SADD (Students against Destructive Decisions) distributed ribbons and bracelets in late October to raise awareness of eating disorders.
The bracelets were different colors, which symbolized different eating disorders, said senior Courtney Haggett, a SADD member.
Haggett said that “some [people] may think there are only anorexia and bulimia, but there are also others classified under the EDNOS category which means ‘eating disorders not otherwise stated’ which can be people having a fear of germs on food so they only eat certain [types], or people who can’t stop eating when they start.”
Amanda Collins, SADD adviser, said over 30 bracelets and 15 ribbons were distributed throughout the week.
“SADD is an organization dedicated to directing teenagers towards a path of good choices and beneficial decisions,” said junior Angelina Gonzalez , another SADD member.
The club is responsible for creating campaigns regarding issues such as eating disorders, drug and alcohol consumption, bullying, and violent behaviors, said Gonzalez.
SADD meetings are held once a month. Students interested in joining SADD should contact Collins in room 903.
