An Icy Hot Start For Spring Sports
For most spring sport athletes meetings, practices, and games are only canceled by the water droplets we call rain. But in this one case, in this one school, all after school activities were canceled by this one hail storm.
Formed by ice bits blowing through freezing thunderclouds, hail hit the Liverpool High School complex at approximately 5:30 pm on April 26 where numerous athletes were stuck waiting for rides.
“Everyone basically freaked out. We were standing in-between the doors and the gym entrance, in which the roof is glass so we all ran inside,” said junior Katlyn McNamara, a member of the Liverpool Outdoor Track team. “I jumped like five feet in the air when I heard it hit the school, I was in awe. That entire storm was just insane.”
Along with the track team, junior Varsity Lacrosse midi Michael Russo was stunned by the “four”.
“The hail was huge and lightning [struck] in the parking lot (laughs), it was loud we were on the bus and it struck right next to us. It was loud,” said Russo. “We were surprised, have never seen hail that big.”
For every teenage driver that just passed their road test, beware of hail- the stuff dents your hoods.
