Osama Bin Laden Killed

Nearly ten years the tragedy of September Eleventh, Al Qaeda founder and leader Osama Bin Laden is taken down by U.S. Navy SEALs

Late Sunday night, President Obama confirmed the news that had spread like a wildfire: Al Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden had been killed.

Obama ordered a team of U.S. Navy SEALs in Afghanistan to raid a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, a city of 90,000. While bin Laden had never been seen in the compound, Obama “determined that we had enough intelligence to take action,” which he said in his address to the nation.

Split between two helicopters, U.S. Navy SEALs raided the compound and were immediately met by fire. After just a few minutes of fire, SEALs collected the terrorist leader’s remains and returned to Afghanistan.

Bin Laden, as well as his son and three other people, were killed – no Americans were harmed.

“After a firefight, they killed Osama Bin Laden and took custody of his body,” announced Obama.

Bin Laden’s body was identified and buried at sea in accordance with Islamic practice, and to prevent a grave site acting as shrine to terrorism.

Joy and patriotism spread instantly last night, as D.C. streets were flooded with Americans, college campuses were paraded by emotional students, and Sunday Night Baseball was overcome with cheers of “U.S.A.” In New York, crowds in Times Square nearly surpassed that of a “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.”

Americans celebrate justice.

But as Americans are filled with feelings of pride and justice, the fight against terrorism is not over. Reporters and experts have not dismissed concerns of retaliation. Some believe, however, that we are safer than ever.

But until then Americans are united once again.
