Prom and ball may seem far in the future, but they will hit us faster than we know it. The junior class held a prom fashion show on February 3rd to help jumpstart that long and stressful checklist by flaunting the latest trends this year and inspiring juniors and seniors.

There’s no surprise that floor-length gowns are always a favorite among the ladies at prom and ball; that trend still lives on and will probably always be a popular choice. Empire waists are also another classic favorite that is seen again this season along with form-fitting silhouettes. Another favorite returning prom trend is the strapless dress, with either a tube or sweetheart bodice. One-strapped dresses have also become a popular trend, as seen on many celebrities recently.

Short dresses with bubble skirts or taffeta skirts are also becoming more popular, since they give off more of a fun, party-mode vibe. They’re a good idea if you’re too worried about getting your gown all stepped upon by strangers the entire evening.

Jewel hues and tones such as emerald, sapphire and ruby have also been seen everywhere and will be sure to make you stand out with sophistication. Eye-popping shades of turquoise, hot pink and canary yellow have also been spotted. If this season’s colors aren’t enough to satisfy you, multicolored floral prints will be sure to do the trick and definitely stand out amongst a sea of standard solid-colored gowns.

Sequins have been making a bold statement throughout many fashion trends lately and are more than appropriate for prom and ball. Embellished bodices and necklines will bring just enough attention to anyone, as they sparkle, gleam and shine when they step out on to the dance floor.

Shoes are also another important component to any wardrobe, but can be easily forgotten since they’re nearly impossible to see underneath long gowns or they end up being kicked off after an hour. Simple low-heeled and open-toed shoes are most sensible, but the fierceness could be stepped up a few notches; beauty is pain, and stilettos are painful without a doubt.

Looking fashionable at prom or ball isn’t just for the ladies. The cardinal rule for any male is to wear a solid black tuxedo and match the colors of the tie and vest with the date’s outfit. If you’re daring enough, take that idea and flip it around with an attention-grabbing colored tuxedo.

We hope these fashion trends will help inspire you as you carefully choose your outfit; Most importantly, choose something that is original and unique, while staying true to your own personal fashion sense.
