Ski Club Hits the Slopes!
Ski Club has headed off to Labrador Mountain to begin their Wednesday ritual of whizzing down the slopes.
Unlike most of us, who are forced to shovel our driveways in the winter months, club members and the staff of Labrador Mountain look forward to those big snowstorms. Skiing on mud is, after all, not as much fun as skiing on snow. They can make their own snow on the mountain, but not unless temperatures are low enough.
Every Wednesday, starting on January 6, the club boards a coach bus after school. Once they get to the mountain, they climb onto the lift and get moving. (Warning: This can be difficult on the first try.)
Whether you ski or snowboard, the club everyone with open arms.
“It’s for anyone who’s at all interested,” said junior Grace Zalewski.
“You can either take lessons at the mountain, or start down the trails right away,” said Emma Allen, a sophomore and second-year club member. After skiing or snowboarding for a while, everyone heads back to the lodge to buy dinner.
“The food is actually really good,” Emma said.
The most popular part of the club is the after-dinner session.
“I love being able to snowboard in the dark,” said Grace.
“It has this cool aura,” said Emma.
Everyone finishes on the mountain, and by eight o’ clock the bus is back on the road, heading back after a well-spent afternoon.
You don’t have to be a Black Diamond skier to be a part of the club; you only have to be willing to try. If this sounds interesting to you, please talk to Mrs. Padula or Ms. Olden. Swamped this winter? Tuck it away in your mind until next year. The slopes are calling.
