Player Profile: Cam Jones

Liverpool’s own Cam Jones is a very talented man. He can pass, he can shoot, and he can also defend. Above all, he displays great leadership in varsity football or basketball.
Since he started as a lineman for the Clay Panthers, Jones has developed himself as a Liverpool quarterback. Jones led Liverpool to a winning record in his senior year, but the team’s state title hopes were crushed in the first round of the Section III AA Playoffs in a loss to the Henninger Black Knights.
Jones has also been on the Liverpool basketball team since 8th grade, showing himself as a big and powerful player who is not afraid of anything. He calls himself a ‘defensive specialist’, and I have to agree with him.
Jones is now focusing on his final Liverpool basketball season and his plans for college.
Football
Cavelli: What was your final record?
Jones: 7-2.
Cavelli: What is your favorite memory from this past season?
Jones: The game I returned from my concussion vs CBA when I threw 3 touchdownsand we got the win.
Cavelli: Would you rather play offense or defense, and why?
Jones: QB because I feel comfortable with pressure on me.
* Jones played safety his junior season, leading the team in interceptions.
Cavelli: What is your favorite play to run at QB?
Jones: Any passing play because I know I have good receivers to count and and I know my arm is good enough to pass at any down.
Cavelli: What would you have changed about this season?
Jones: How far we went in the playoffs because we could of went a lot farther.
Cavelli: What do you leave behind going into college next year?
Jones: My brother Jazz coming back to playing football and filling my #14 jearsy.
Cavelli: What was the biggest game you have ever played on the varsity level?
Jones: This year’s playoff game vs. Henninger when we were so close to winning.
Cavelli: Looking back on the B’Ville game, do you think they deserved to win?
Jones: No, because we were the better team and we had a lot of dumb turnovers and we did not perform like a team.
Cavelli: Was the hit you took from Nick Robinson fair or dirty?
Jones: To tell the truth I don’t really remember and I don’t really care anymore but during basketball season he might receive an elbow in the face.
Basketball
Cavelli: How is this team different then last year’s team you think?
Jones: We have a lot more talent on this team
Cavelli: Can you go farther then last year you think?
Jones: No doubt, we are so much better you don’t understand.
Cavelli: Who do you think will be the toughest mathup for the team this year and why?
Jones: FM, because they already beat us in the 1st game and they beat us last year in the semi round for the playoffs.
Cavelli: How is the teams chemistry?
Jones: Pretty good, 4 out of the 5 starters know what they are doing, but we can fix that and we can always get better.
Cavelli: What can we look forward to this season?
Jones: Making the sectional championship.
College
Cavelli: What colleges are you looking at?
Jones: Cortland, Brockport, West Virginia, and Michigan State.
Cavelli: Do you plan to play football or basketball?
Jones: Football with out any questions.
Cavelli: Are you going to walk on to any schools or scholarships?
Jones: Well Cortland and Brockport are D3 so they don’t give out scholarships so I would walk on and the same for West Virginia and Michigan State.
Cavelli: Are you looking forward to college?
Jones: Ya, I am going to have fun and its a great experience and more football.
Cavelli: Are you going to miss playing football and basketball for the Warriors and are you going to miss your coaches?
Jones: For football I’m going to miss my teammates the most because of the great chemistry we have since 8th grade and nothing can be compared to it, and for basketball Coach Wilcox has been a great friend and coach and I can talk to him about anything and I can always count on him for giving me the honest truth.
